Technician Training Leader Concerns
ACT now! Experience the true benefits and rewards of quality entry-level tech training
As a seasoned technician myself, I realize you might have some reservations about training an entry-level student tech with little or no prior experience. I too had my doubts when I was first approached many years ago and asked to train a “rookie” off the street. That experience was definitely an “eye opener” for me that revealed many flaws and challenges that had to be overcome if training someone else was to benefit me personally as a technician.
When I entered the training field there was no program, guidance, or structure, so in essence I had to “wing-it” on the fly as I went along. That is no way to train! It cost me time, money, and a lot of aggravation and heartache. Although that experience was difficult and trying, it became the primer that exploded my creativity toward developing a training program that would elevate not only my earnings as a technician but rekindled my enthusiasm as a craftsman. I found an avenue of renewed excitement and financial rewards through training entry-level student techs.
I would encourage you as a technician to get involved and become a part of a completely unique training program that offers you not only monetary benefits but self satisfaction, enjoyment, and pride knowing you are imparting your skills, knowledge, wisdom, and talents to the next generation of autobody repair technicians.
What makes The Academy training program unique!
This program is specifically designed by a technician for a technician. The problematic negatives associated with training (lost time & revenue) are eliminated altogether, or at the very least greatly reduced.
The created structure of this program concentrates on effective training in a production facility. The repairing process of vehicles in a production shop should never be altered or interrupted to fit a training scenario. Quite the contrary; training should always adapt harmoniously to vehicle repairs without interruption. That’s why this program was created and tested in a production shop for a production shop.
The two year tested concept of this program produced R.E.A.L. world training (rotating experience & applied learning) techniques that are incorporated into the program for all types of repair that are being performed on a daily basis in your facility. This versatile style of training quickly prepares the students skill level and knowledge in all areas of the collision repair process. In a short period of time students begin to realize the associated relational commonalities within the full spectrum of repairs and utilize those techniques productively.
The student techs you will be training will be the very best! They will not be someone off the street who thinks they would like to be a body man. These entry-level tech students will have an invested interest in their training toward a career future. Student recruits must adhere to strict enrollment guidelines before acceptance into the training program. This assures that student candidates you are training are committed, disciplined, focused individuals intent on learning.
Although this program is complete in context and design, and the benefits of training will quickly manifest progress, it does require your time and effort. For this reason the programs planning and accommodation for student training is facilitated through efficient scheduling. The “true to the test” results we discovered in our facility proved effective training, and the benefits of that training, can be achieved in 20 hours a week. This allows you as a technician to meet your desired repair quota goals even with your involvement and participation in apprenticeship training.
As a technician I realize the importance of organization. Being organized made me money on the line repairing vehicles. In order for training to be organized, effective, and efficient, there must be direction. As a technician you might be hesitant about training simply because of a starting point. How would you begin training? Where would you begin training? Questioning yourself in this manner will definitely deter or stop you from becoming a technician training leader. And rightfully so! That is why I have spent six years developing our unique easy to use curriculum.
This easy to use text is an organizational teaching and training tool. It doesn’t teach, complicate, or alter the way you repair vehicles. That is not the purpose of the text, nor is that what the text is designed to do. I am confident you already know how to repair. The text helps the student fully understand the repair process as they become involved in that process, which is almost immediately. It is a point of reference material for them to learn from and retain knowledge in, through notation, as the repair is being processed through their active participation in daily production.
The curriculum also gives you written material for direction to instruct a student on what you want them to accomplish without the need of constant supervision in an easy to use format. The text initiates the starting points for progressive training in a way that allows you to continue on with your daily routine and repair duties. Therefore the student is learning and training in basic task areas efficiently while at the same time growing the student’s competency and skill levels into more complex areas of repair.
The program curriculum includes procedural text for; repair plan strategy, repair thought processing, creating an estimate using damage analysis, surface repair, roof replacement, quarter replacement, bedside replacement, door skin replacement, core support replacement, damage analysis, repair plan strategy, metal straightening, basic pulling techniques, disassembly, reassembly, coachwork, and welding. Monitoring and enhancement text is also provided along with standard operating procedures that can be further customized to fit you needs.
A key feature of our program is implementation. Curriculum, guidance, structure, design, creativity; these are all crucial elements that play a vital role in our unique training program. However, they would all become meaningless without an effective delivery and “action plan” for implementation. At The Academy I truly believe “talk is cheap”. We are not a lip service for Fee Company! I will prove our programs value and worth on the production floor where it counts, with you the seasoned technician, at your location!
I will instruct you on the program methodology and training techniques that will quickly teach you how to become comfortable with training student techs and help customize this program to suit your individual personality and style for optimum results.
Participating in this quality training program will raise your personal production level by 25 to 40 percent!
Sharing a part of who you are with a student tech, that’s priceless!
